Our Responsibility

We are in the process of developing guidelines which will be applicable to our full range of products. They will be developed through consultation and external technical support and will build on our increasing capability to trace products to source. We are committed to continuous improvement over the accountability of how we introduce produce into the global food chain, through our own production, small and large-scale farmers or suppliers.

We will be contributing to the local economy by paying the relevant taxes. We will also be offering employment and business opportunities to local farmers and others.

We intend to contribute to communities by giving employment to locals, providing housing opportunities and making families feel part of society. This will help parents afford to send their children to school and gain a better education, which will benefit communities in the long term and sustainably.

We can improve on farming technology through investment as well as monitoring the fast rate of information exchange between stakeholders in all operating environments and promoting best practice. New transportation technology is also in the pipeline, making it easier to transport goods across the country to all ports of entry.

Through random visits to our farms, we continually verify our farms do not engage in child labour, or any other illegal practices in production. To date, we are 100% child labour free and will have our legal team make sure we take all the necessary steps to ensure this.

Our farms will not use any forced labour, i.e. any work or service performed involuntarily under threat of physical or other penalty. None of our workers will be restricted in their movement, whether by controlling identity papers, holding money deposits, or taking any other action to prevent workers from terminating their employment. All workers will be free to enter or leave employment voluntarily.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our farms will hire, compensate, promote, discipline, and provide other conditions of employment based solely on an individual's performance and ability to do the job (except as required under collective bargaining agreements). No one will be discriminated against based on a person's race, sex, age, nationality, marital status, ethnic origin, or any legally protected status.

Harassment and Abuse

Our farms will provide a workplace free from harassment of any form including: sexual, verbal, physical or visual behaviour that creates an offensive, hostile, or intimidating environment.

Safety and Health

At all times we will:

  • endeavour to provide safe working conditions,
  • provide employees with appropriate protection from exposure to hazardous materials, and
  • provide employees with access to potable water and clean sanitation facilities.

Working Hours and Compensation

Within the bounds of normal seasonal and other fluctuations in business requirements, we will

  • maintain a reasonable overall pattern of required working hours and days off for employees so that total work hours per week do not regularly exceed industry norms;
  • pay fair and timely compensation, including any required premium payments for overtime work; and
  • advise new employees at the time of hiring if mandatory overtime is a condition of employment.

Disciplinary Procedures

At no time will we condone the use of corporal punishment or other forms of mental or physical coercion as a form of discipline.

Business Integrity

We will work to promote honesty and integrity in all business conduct by raising ethical awareness among employees and providing direction and education on ethical issues. We will not pay or accept bribes, arrange or accept kickbacks, or participate in illegal inducements in business or government relationships.

Environment and Sustainability

We endeavour to continuously improve our environmental performance by setting and then working toward quantifiable goals aimed at reducing the environmental impact of our activities.
